Students may bring the signed parent/guardian note either before school or during snack. All requests will be verified prior to release of the student. Parents/guardians may come to the Attendance window to sign their students out with proper ID. The Attendance window is open every school day from 8:30 am to 20 minutes prior to the final bell. Students will not be called to the Attendance window the last 20 minutes of the school day. Students will not be released via phone requests.

Extended absences
Short Term Independent Study (STIS)
STIS is for extended absences other that illness (i.e., vacations, camps, fair participation, surgery or medical procedure, etc.) that are no longer than fifteen school days. Credit can be obtained for class work completed during the student's absence from school. Completed STIS forms must be submitted at least five days prior to the first day of the expected absence. Contact the EHS Attendance Office for further information.
Ditch Days
Eastside High School does NOT authorize "Ditch Days" at any time for any grade level.
Truancy and daytime loitering
Students are expected to be on time to each and every class every school day. If tardy, students are expected to enter the class quietly and be seated. If a student is caught in a Tardy Sweep, they are expected to comply with security and school staff directions and proceed to the designated Tardy Sweep area for documentation of the truancy offense. Students that are chronically truant and found to violate California state Daytime Loitering laws will be referred to the Eastside High School Community Attendance Worker (CAW) for further documentation, interventions, and/or consequences.
