What Is It?

These CTE electives integrate communication skills and artistic proficiencies using contemporary media arts as a focus. The students will develop an understanding of the role of contemporary media as a verbal and visual means of communication in today’s society. Emphasis is placed on creative, expository, and instructional writing presented using comprehensive multimedia concepts. Focus will also be placed on introducing the student to art, design, and the technologies of this new media. This course will introduce students to effective communication approaches for the 21st Century. Going beyond the simple written and oral communication to interactive multimedia using text, graphics, animation, video, photography and virtual reality.

What To Expect

Students will develop skill in technical documentation to represent and communicate experimental findings and solutions to problems. In addition, students will explore how connections to other disciplines such as computer science and engineering shape the future of medicine and practice collaboration techniques that will help them connect with professionals across any field.

In the Film classes students who achieve competency in the Film Pathway will develop knowledge and skills in principles and elements of video/film production, both from the performance and technical aspects, and will be prepared for entry-level employment or to continue film studies at the college level. Entry-level positions include video equipment technician, assistant editor, and production assistant.Using digital tools they will produce multiple media and news projects expressing their creative process and demonstrating their knowledge and understanding of pre-production, production, and post-production in the areas of video and broadcast media.

In the Sound Production classes, students use Sound Production/Engineering concepts and digital recording studio (sound production) skills to experience real-world, professional applications. Lessons and projects are created to have students consider the wide-ranging of opportunities within the audio field and the skills needed to attain them. Sound Production allows students to explore their personal interests (making music, scoring and foley work for film and video, sound design, etc.), while being challenged to go beyond what they know and learn. The Sound Production courses prepare students with skills they might use as a professional sound engineer/producer.
