Attendance
Families must clear all student absences within three school days. For everyone's safety, students are never released over the phone—only parents, legal guardians, or emergency contacts listed in PowerSchool may pick up a student with valid identification.
Students may not leave campus without an approved off-campus pass. Submit requests in writing to the Attendance Office before school or during snack so staff can verify permissions prior to releasing the student.
Clearing Student Absences
Only parents or legal guardians can excuse an absence. Please include the student’s name, ID number, dates of the absence, and the reason whenever you contact the Attendance Office.
By Email
Email ehs-attendance@avhsd.org any time. Attach supporting documentation (doctor’s notes, court paperwork, etc.) whenever available.

Safety Reminder
Only parents or legal guardians can excuse an absence or authorize a release. Students are never released over the phone.
Off-Campus Passes & Senior Lunch
Senior Lunch Passes are the only passes that allow students to leave campus during lunch. Applications must be approved each semester before privileges begin.
Off-Campus Pass Requests
Submit a signed note from a parent or guardian to the Attendance Office before school or during snack. All requests are verified before students are released.
Parents and guardians may also request a pass in person by providing valid identification at the Attendance window.
Senior Lunch Privileges
Semester 1 applications for the 2024-25 school year are due in the Activities Office by August 28 at the end of the school day (no exceptions). Approved privileges begin September 3, 2024. Seniors must reapply for Semester 2.
- Students must meet eligibility criteria outlined on the application.
- Privileges may be revoked by administration or parents/guardians at any time.
Helpful Resources
Short Term Independent Study (STIS)
STIS supports extended absences of up to 15 school days for reasons other than illness (travel, camps, medical procedures, etc.).
Submit completed STIS paperwork at least five school days before the absence begins. Credit is awarded for work completed while away from campus.
Contact the Attendance Office for forms, deadlines, and guidance on planning an STIS contract.
Attendance Expectations
Consistent attendance keeps students on track academically and reduces the need for interventions. Please partner with us to keep students in class and on time.
Ditch Days & Tardy Sweeps
Eastside High School does not authorize “Ditch Days.” Students must report to every class on time, enter quietly, and be seated. Students caught in tardy sweeps must follow staff directions and report to the designated area for documentation.
Truancy & Support
Chronic truancy or violations of California’s Daytime Loitering laws are referred to the Community Attendance Worker (CAW) for interventions and possible consequences.
